On the evening of the Last Supper, after Jesus washes the disciple's feet and Judas has gone, Jesus reveals that He has only a short time left, and His disciples cannot go where He is going. He assures them, however, that He will prepare a place and then return to bring them also where He is. (John 13:33,14:2-3). Jesus adds, "You know the way to the place I am going." (John 14:4). Confused by this statement, Thomas questions Jesus, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" (John 14:5). Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me". (John 14:6) If there remained any question about Jesus' deity or how to reconcile humanity to God, Jesus clears it up for Thomas and for all mankind as well.
