One of the major Columbia River tributaries, the Deschutes River runs through central Oregon and right through the heart of Bend (where the namesake craft brewery resides). Renowned for its beautifully rugged terrain which results in spectacular falls and rugged whitewater, the Deschutes is one of the premier steelhead and brown trout fisheries in the northwest. A centuries-old lifeline for Native Americans and, in the early 19th century, Oregon Trail explorers, today the river provides much-needed water resources to the eastern side of the Cascades, which is traditionally the much drier region of Oregon.
