3 x 3 Prickly Pear Cactus Art Tile
This tile has an image of the prickly pear cactus which grows all over New Mexico. We have some in our yard. This image illustrates the tunas or cactus fruits that form after the cactus blooms. Some people use the tunas or cactus fruits in cooking and it has a brilliant red color. The spines are very sharp and barbed. Don't get too close. Tile is handcrafted by pressing soft clay into a carved plaster mold to create raised ridges. The valleys are flooded with glaze and then fired to cone 5. The tile is suitable for indoor or outdoor installation. Many of these designs were made for a public art project called Entrada del Sol in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sized to accommodate a grout line resulting in 3 inch finished dimension. This is a handmade tile and variations in color, texture, and size occur naturally. Handmade by Glenn Schwaiger.
