About this Image:Called to Serve was the first painting done by Doc which incorporated the mirror reflection. This painting was inspired by a letter written to Doc by a young missionary, Elder Brad Griffith, who served part of his mission in Salem, Oregon, where Doc was the Ward Mission Leader at the time. Months after receiving the letter, Doc and his wife Carolyn were delivering their son Adam to the Provo MTC to begin his mission to Korea when Doc asked his son to stand in front of the mirror and put his tie on. From the photos he took that morning, Doc completed this painting.About the Artist:DOC O. CHRISTENSEN was raised on a dairy farm in Merced, California, where he spent a lot of time learning to draw. At a young age, his mother soon introduced him to oil painting. Later on in life, he gained experience as a technical illustrator.
