The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is perhaps Gérald Genta’s most memorable work, and in many ways, it changed the shape of the watch industry. The Royal Oak essentially launched an entirely new category of 'luxury sport' timepieces, and with it came a new design language that has inspired countless other manufactures. What's particularly delightful about the design of this seminal watch is that it works brilliantly in a number of sizes and casing materials, from stainless steel to carbon, ceramic, and solid gold. This particular model, a Reference 15450S4.OO1256SR.01, is housed in a two-tone, 37mm stainless steel and pink gold case with a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, and an octagonal bezel. Simple and handsome, it features a silver Grand Tappisserie dial with applied luminous ‘baton’ indices, a matching handset, and a date window at 3 o’clock. Pared to an integrated two-tone bracelet with a hidden deployant clasp, it’s powered by an automatic Calibre 3120 movement from Audemars Piguet
