Patek Philippe Gondolo Ladies
Not every timepiece from the world’s greatest watchmaker fits neatly into the mold of an overarching theme or collection. While we love a simple Calatrava, a sporty Aquanaut, or a complicated perpetual calendar as much as the next guy, the oddball, more overlooked and usually limited-production, shaped watches made by the maison in second half of the 20th century are often some of the most innovative and charming in the brand’s oeuvre. Take this ladies’ Gondolo for example. Dating to the 2000s, it has an exaggerated rectangular profile that makes it unique even amongst the greater Patek Philippe catalog. And it doesn’t hurt that it’s positively dripping in diamonds! Housed in a 36.5mm diamond-encrusted 18K rose gold case with diamond-encrusted lugs, it features a gorgeous faceted sapphire crystal, a signed crown, a mother of pearl dial with a radial finished center, and a blued steel 'kite' handset.
