If you're reading this, you already know.  The Rolex Submariner is arguably the most recognized timepiece in the world, and quite possibly the most significant diver's watch ever produced.  It goes without saying that any timepiece in production for 60 years has something seriously good going for it. But in our opinion, not all Submariners are created equal.  Those produced from the mid-80s onwards featured a glossy black dial with hour markers surrounded in white gold, giving the original diver's tool watch a significantly "blingier" appearance.  Prior to this change (which occurred circa 1984), all Submariner dials were matte black in coloring, and featured painted markers without the surrounds.  As these age, they patinate brilliantly, making the matte dial Subs much more desirable to collectors and enthusiasts.
