I've been thinking a lot about the necessary bridges that will be needed to shrink the gap between lawn lovers and pollinator lovers.  Ecologists have tried for decades to make conservation sexy and now I'm taking a stab at it too. It's not enough to explain that the monotony of a lawn is bad. What we need to do is show how the naturalists are actually the cool kids.    All butterflies pictured are from North America, including the gorgeous and endangered California pipevine swallowtail. Apologies in advance for the missing Monarch. I tried! Orange was not interested in being a part of this composition. All flowers listed are native and evolved alongside the butterflies in a symbiotic relationship.    "Be the one who plants wildflowers." That's what works for a front t-shirt. But the quote is incomplete. I originally wrote it to say, "In a world of endless pavement, be the one who plants wildflowers."  Thanks for looking and keep fighting the good fight!
