
Antique French Ostrich Leather Folding Vanity Case with 15 Implements, One Marked Louis Vuitton
This set seems to have a collection of nicely matched implements for the Grand Tour traveler, all housed perfectly well in a top quality and supple ostrich leather folding travel case, but they are not all original and while there is a "VUITTON" marked item, there are also others with a variety of maker marks. We've shown some. We'd date this one late 1800s to earliest 1900s, and to the Belle Epoche or Golden Era, when tourism really began to be something not only for Royals and the very elite, but also for the upper middle class. The case you see was likely a part of a large traveler's valise, and we've had sets that include this type of implements case plus many silver topped jars, brushes, mirror, etc., for the well-heeled traveler's needs. Nicely preserved, it's fun to take along on your own Grand Tour - how about the Orient Express! Very good condition for age and type, the leather outer case is supple and virtually unscathed by time.
