Broadway & 181st Street, Busy Intersection

This painting was acquired by Apple Bank and you can now view it in the first conference room at their Washington Heights location (604 W 181st St, New York, NY 10033). Crossing Broadway at 181st one recent evening, and looking southward, I was struck by the ominous pink sky over this busy part of the Heights. This is my attempt to capture a relatively quieter moment at this usually chaotic intersection where there’s never less than 3 buses squeezing through a no man’s land of double parked vehicles, scooters darting for an opening, and pedestrians putting it all on the line for an errand. It was one of those moments when the light really was magical and you could put off crossing the street to witness it.
