Idlewild "The Flower" Flora & Fauna Rosé 2023

The 2023 "Flower" is a Piemontese-inspired co-ferment of 41% Nebbiolo, 30% Dolcetto, and 29% Barbera and a touch of Grignolino. While the wine is designated as Mendocino County, the fruit largely comes from Fox Hill Vineyard.  The soils here are well-drained with high concentrations of gravel and sandstone.  You'll see as much reflected on the palate, with plenty of minerality and structure.  An elegant, extroverted rosé that pairs beautifully with food. Winemaker Sam's Flora and Fauna line pays homage to the collection of plant and animal life in this time and place.  It's another way of casting the idea of terroir, expanding the lens beyond soil and weather to encompass the whole of the local ecosystem.
