Model for the origins of movement
MICHAEL WHITTLE Drawing | 2018 (Myosin and Actin molecular family trees as linked, punctured tori) In this drawing the superfamily trees of actin and myosin are depicted within partially open, linked tori, creating a diagrammatic icon for our investigations in to the origins of biological movement. These diverse and evolutionarily ancient families of protein molecules are found in almost all animal cells, and this drawing was created using data from experiments to map the branching family trees of these proteins, which I then mapped on to the exterior of two interlinked donut shaped tori, one for actin and one for myosin. The result is a skeletal, diagram-like icon for our investigations in to the very origins of biological movement itself.
