The inflammation or swelling of the tonsils is called tonsillitis. It is also called tonsillopharyngitis. Tonsillitis is most common in children between the ages of four and five and rarely occurs before the age of three. A viral infection most commonly causes it, and about 5% to 40% of cases are caused by bacterial infections, which occur at a later age. According to Vagbhata, the disease Tundikeri affects the Hanu pradesha (jaw region), which spreads to the Talu (Palate) and Kantha (Throat). So it comes under the disease affecting both Talu (Palate) and Kantha (Throat). Ayurvedic Concept  Tonsillitis and tonsils in Ayurveda can be correlated to Tundikeri, one of the head and neck diseases. Ayurvedic literature explains that tonsillitis results from vitiated and imbalanced dosha of the body, i.e., Vāta, Pitta, and Kapha. Ayurveda describes that the pathogenesis of tonsillitis is due to the derangement of Kapha dosha and Rakta. This alters the digestive fire causing impaired digestive
