The majority of their body is a vibrant red, but their dorsal area is a bright blue. Males may be more beautifully colored. A labyrinth fish, they will take air directly from the surface of the water.  They should be kept in a tank with plenty of plant coverage and hiding places to feel secure. They are compatible with other small, peaceful fish and should not be kept with any fin nippers. Unlike their larger non-dwarf counterparts, they are very peaceful themselves.
