The Kelp Tree

This sculpture began as a 400-pound solid trunk of ambrosia maple, chosen for its fascinating natural features—twists, knots, burls, and intricate insect tunnels. Allowing the wood’s unique characteristics to guide the design, I carefully hollowed and shaped it down, preserving its organic beauty. Inspired by the way light interacts with textures, I dedicated significant energy to creating a finish that mimics the fluid movement of seaweed. The result is a dynamic piece that captivates the eye from every angle, inviting discovery with each new perspective.
