The assemblage of metal, glass, and jade makes this small dish really stand out. The round metal rim has its center cut out with a 2 3/8” diameter piece of pierced and carved jade, protected by glass. The upper surface of the metal rim is coated in cloisonné with a design of flowers. The back of the metal is coated in green enamel. There is a raised foot showing the brass metal. The light green jade has been carved in a design of cherry blossom and peony. When held to the light, the jade is quite translucent and very pretty. There is the word CHINA written on the bottom in blue enamel. MEASUREMENTS4 ½” (11.4 cm) diameter x 5/8” (1.6 cm) tall. Jade insert measures 2 3/8” (6 cm) in diameter. Weighs 3.8 oz (110 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. There are spots and misses in the cloisonné which are consistent with the age. A work of art in mixed materials. It would look lovely in a window on a plate stand, so light shines through it.
