Victorian Silverplate Card Receiver Aesthetic Movement Reed & Barton Circa 1870

An elegant silver plate piece from a time when calling cards in a well to do home were everything. This card receiver was made just to receive calling cards from those calling at the home's entry.  A heavy metal has been fashioned into a pedestal with an oval shaped dish and then silver plated. It has embellishments of leaves and a metal loop. Chaste work forms an elaborate pattern on the dish. The piece still has some silver left and has taken on a nice shine. The piece has an engraved mark on the base that reads MFD. & PLATED BY REED & BARTON and the production number of 2179. MEASUREMENTS 5 7/8” (14.9 cm) wide x 7 ½” (19.0 cm) deep x 8” (20.3 cm) tall. Weighs 13.3 oz (375 g) CONDITION There is silver loss and wear from years of polishing and use. There are tiny nicks on edges.
