
Castilleja applegatei var. pinetorum (Wavy Leaf Indian Paintbrush) 10 Seeds
Known as Wavy Leaf Paintbrush, Applegate's Paintbrush, Wavy Pine Paintbrush, or Martin's Paintbrush, it is a native perennial wildflower that enjoys lots of sun and cool summer weather. It tolerates heat and drought well but will stay smaller in size. Wavy Leaf Paintbrush has slightly sticky wavy leaves with a rich red, much deeper than Wyoming or Split leaf. Smaller flowers that aren't as prominent as other Castilleja species are hidden behind the deep red bracts and attract unique pollinators. Extremely hardy to wind and frigid temps, they also tolerate poor, salty-sandy and rocky soil. Resist deer but not livestock. Blooms in May and will continue to bloom through September at higher elevations or with mid-day shade and a little extra water. Plant in or along a gravel pad, rock/crevice garden, or with some sagebrush and native grasses to watch it really take off.
