Cercis 'Heart of Gold'

Cercis canadensis 'Heart of Gold' This Eastern Redbud displays pops of color in early spring as brilliant lavender-purple blooms appear on bare branches. Spring foliage emerges orange-red, maturing to bright gold. Golden leaves gradually pale to chartreuse or yellowish-green as summer progresses. Large, heart-shaped leaves are burn-resistant even in full summer sun.  Prune the tree in early summer after the tree is done blooming. Begin by removing any larger lower branches and branches that cross over each other or rub together. In late winter, prune any dead or damaged wood and remove any shoots that are growing from the bottom of the trunk.
