Crape Myrtle 'Tonto'

Lagerstroemia indica v. tonto Although originally native to Asia and Japan, the Crape Myrtle has become naturalized in much of the southern US, particularly in Virginia and the Carolinas. In cooler zones Crape Myrtle remains more compact and shrub-like. One of the more familiar varieties of Crape Myrtle, 'Tonto' is extremely popular, mainly due to its fast growth, and vibrant, large blooms. 'Tonto' features large bright deep magenta blooms that show in late summer and fall. Expect up to 18 inches of growth per year.  Some pruning in early spring is required in order to shape into tree form. Does best in full sun and average soil.
