Three face upward, called "standards" and three face downward, called "falls". They get the "beard" name from the fuzzy feature at the upper base of the falls. Grown from a bulb-like tuberous root called a rhizome. The German Iris family are fragrant, bloom twice a year, and form clumps of sword shaped leaves. They are easy to grow and generally deer and rabbit resistant. Plant in full sun with well-drained, fertile soil. Once established, they can become somewhat drought tolerant.
