FAST Air-to-Water Intercooler for LSXHR Intake Manifold
If you plan to run boost with gasoline, you need to be thinking about lowering your inlet air temps. That means intercooling. The two generic types are air-to-air and air-to-water. Both can work. Air-to-water types are generally more self-contained and therefore require less fabrication work. Available underhood space and vertical clearance are factors that may favor one type over the other. Air-to-water systems enable the running of refrigerated or iced coolant for enhanced cooling. Air-to-water systems are built into Whipple superchargers and we have used a lot of 417 Motorsports intercoolers sandwiched inside Holley intakes (see videos down below). FAST was teasing this LSXHR air-to-water intake manifold/intercooler combo at PRI 2023. They claimed it was more efficient at heat transfer than other competitive products. Their testing on a 1,350hp/20psi turbocharged LSX engine showed a 198-degree/F drop in temperature and less than 1psi loss across the intercooler. The package is rat
