The 'Gates of Hell' is a monumental sculptural group inspired by Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Dissatisfied with his initial version of 'Adam,' which closely resembled Michelangelo's style, Rodin altered the pose to make Adam look down, expressing shame and remorse after the Fall to sin.
