The 'Gates of Hell' is a monumental sculptural group inspired by Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Dissatisfied with his initial version of 'Adam,' which closely resembled Michelangelo's style, Rodin altered the pose to make Adam look down, expressing shame and remorse after the Fall to sin. The sculpture, crafted using the age-old lost wax casting method, features a brown patina stain and is mounted on a black marble base with Rodin's signature.
