Weight (carats) 25.80cts Weight (grams) 5.16g Dimensions (inches) 1" x 0.6" x 0.33" Dimensions (millimeters) 25.19mm x 14.86mm x 8.69mm Origin Dominican Republic Shape pear shaped cabochon Material Grade AAA Notable Patterns white marbling Treatments / Enhancements none, natural SKU Number #679   About Larimar: Larimar is the blue gemstone variety of "pectolite" found only in the Dominican Republic.  The stone was first discovered in 1916, but the request to mine it was denied due to insufficient evidence of its existence.  It wasn't until 1974 that larimar was rediscovered and brought to market after stones had washed ashore on a beach at the foot of the Bahoruco Mountain Range.  At the time, natives believed these stones came from the ocean, lending to the name "Larimar"- "mar" from the Spanish word for "sea" and "lari" from "Larissa," the young daughter of the man who formally rediscovered the stone.
