Break The Rules

Brooke RingAcrylic on Canvas24" x 30" x .5"(d) “The shadows prove the sun’s still shining” is a phrase that has played over and over in my head this year and I think it only naturally has infiltrated my work, including this collection of florals. In a conceptual way, I’ve tried to create more deeper tonal colors to represent those darker shadows and pair them with my usual brights to further accentuate the beauty of those colors. I’ve also been thinking about layers and the process of becoming the people who we were created to be. I’ve found if I paint with a clear end in sight then my paintings turn out tighter and the end result lacks all of the messy layers underneath. Much like life, the messy layers are what makes the painting beautiful, as the dark times make the brighter times worthwhile. “Break The Rules” is an acrylic painting on a 24”x30”x.5”(d) stretched canvas.
