Emperor Marcus Aurelius Roman Empire silver denarius coin. Appox 18mm, 3.17g, RIC 171, RSC 882. Dated denarius minted from Dec 166 to Dec 167 CE (TR P XXI IMP IIII). Detailed laurate head portrait. Well struck with nice surfaces and centered flan. Toned with underlying luster, very nice in hand. Certified by NGC to Ch XF Strike 5/5, Surface 4/5. Obverse: M ANTONINVS AVG ARM PARTH MAX, mature laureate head facing right with full beard. Reverse: TR P XXI IMP IIII COS III, Aequitas standing left holding scales and cornucopia. Aequitas or Equitas is the deified personification of equity or fairness. She is most often depicted holding a pair of scales to represent fair dealings and equality. Perhaps a reference to the relationship with Marcus' co-Emperor, Lucius Verus.
