Very Fine Roman Egypt billon tetradrachm coin. Struck for Emperor Commodus, son of Marcus Aurelius. Minted in the Emperor's 28th Alexandrian year = 187/8 CE. Emmett: 2537/28. Certified by NGC to VF. Obverse: laureate head of emperor facing right. Reverse: Emperor standing left holding scepter being crowned by Alexandria wearing crown standing left, surrounded by date letters L K H = 28. Alexandria was the personification of the Egyptian city of Alexandria & is depicted wearing a crown of city towers. This reverse type appears to be commemorative in nature, perhaps in connection with Commodus being awarded Pater Senatus.
