Choice Very Fine Roman Empire silver denarius coin. Struck for Empress Julia Domna at the Rome Mint. Minted between 196 to 211 CE during the reign of her husband Emperor Septimius Severus. Detailed portrait and reverse presentation of Felicitas, very appealing in hand. RIC 551, RSC 47, Approx. 19mm, 3.34g. Certified by NGC to Ch VF. Obverse: JULIA AVGVSTA, draped bust right with hair braided in waves and tucked into a large chignon. Reverse: FELICITAS, Felicitas standing left, holding caduceus and scepter. Felicitas Goddess was the personification of good luck and success. Felicitas could encompass both a woman's fertility, and a general's luck or good fortune. This is perhaps a recognition of the luck and success of her husband in the civil wars that secured his throne.
