Choice Very Fine Roman Empire silver denarius coin. Struck for Emperor Septimius Severus Roman Empire at the Rome Mint. RIC 185, RSC 373, 3.49g (heavy flan), approx. 18mm. Dated TR P X = 202 CE. Detailed reverse treatment of captives, trophy and arms. A likely reference to the Emperor's major victory over Parthia at the Battle of Ctesiphon, 198 CE, when the Roman Legions sacked the Parthian capital. Certified by NGC to Ch VF. Very pleasing in hand. Obverse: SEVERVS PIVS AVG, laureate head of emperor right. Reverse: PART MAX P M TR P X COS III P P, Two captives wearing helmets with hands to chin seated right & left, back to back with trophy of arms between. Trophy consists of full cuirass with helmet, shields, spears, etc.
