Valentine's Day Reading Comprehension Passage with Questions | EOC Prep

I love to celebrate holidays in the secondary classroom but still “stick” with the ELA standards. I use this article around Valentine’s Day to teach my students about the history of the holiday, objections to celebrating it, AND how we can spread love year around – not just on one day out of the whole year. This piece works well when you’re focusing on author’s argument, tone, text structure, and/or main idea.  This could also be used as a sub-plan. Everything students need for vocabulary, critical thinking, and test prep are all included!  I've included an article all about the history of Valentine's Day and many believe it is simply a "Hallmark Holiday" used to make money. I've also added some fun stories on the history of a popular Valentine's Day candy. Students will see 10 multiple choice questions and one constructed-response question.
