pH Paper Roll pH Testing Paper Tear off about 1/2 inch of the test paper and apply a drop or two of urine. To test the pH of saliva, tear off about 1/2 inch of the test paper and insert into mouth to saturate with saliva. Compare the color of the pH test paper, to the color/numeric chart on the package insert. If pH is lower than 5.5 (acid) of urine or saliva, the pH paper will not change color. Ideal range is slightly alkaline 7.2 to 7.4 - for both urine and saliva. Body pH is measured by testing urine and saliva. Healthy urine’s pH is between 7.0 and 7.2 and healthy saliva’s pH is between 7.2 and 7.4. The best time to check urine is before breakfast and before dinner in the evening; however, it’s prudent to also check urine during the course of the day. Saliva can be checked any time. Simply tear off about half an inch of pH paper and apply a couple of drops of urine or saliva. The color of the pH paper will match up to the numeric values on the chart as shown here.
