Hardier than old-world amaryllis, 'DOUBLE KING' can be grown outdoors to USDA growing zone 7 and reliably produce blossoms in summer year after year! Grown in the Inca Valley of Peru, this selection has a shortened period needed to send up its flower stalks making blooming during the Winter Holidays a real option. Once planted and watered, Peruvian amaryllis take only 4-6 weeks to bud out and bloom! Typical Dutch amaryllis grown in the Northern Hemisphere usually require anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks to grow out from the bulb to bloom.
