ProblemBy age nine, children in low-income communities are already two to three grade levels behind children in higher-income areas in reading and math. As children progress through school, the achievement gap widens: a child who grows up in a low-income community is seven times less likely to graduate from college than a child growing up in a more privileged area. We are working to close this gap by outstanding recent college graduates of all majors into low-income public school classrooms.
