Chemistry: 30 Elements to Know w/Quiz and PowerPoint

30 Most Common Chemical Elements to Know! Give this quiz at the beginning of your atomic structure unit. Includes a handout list for the students of the 30 common elements for them to know. They will learn the symbols and correct spelling for each element, and take the quiz around five days later. Included, you will find two formats of the quiz (both with keys). One quiz is a matching for standard classes as well as students needing modification. The fill-in-the-blank version is for honors or advanced honors classes. In this version, students will fill in the symbol for fifteen elements, and fill in the name for fifteen symbols. I used to just hand this out and tell students that the quiz will be next week. I would hear students say, “Oh, this will be easy, I know all of these.” And, then, I would have a large number of students not do well on the quiz.
