Kiln-deformation pottery From Tokyo. Began her work in pottery in Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture. Established a kiln in Shizuoka in 1999, and a wood-fired kiln in 2000. Tamiya uses a special technique that does not utilise glaze in order to bring out the sheen of the ceramic she works with. This technique gives her work a raw, primitive appeal. She also frequently crosses over into the field of flower arrangement, having displayed her vases in many exhibitions.
