Toru Hatta  Born in Ishikawa prefecture in 1977. Based in Sakai city, Osaka. He primarily produces white, black, and Mishima ceramics with a focus on the natural characteristics of clay. The clay he uses is a blend of raw materials from the Mino region, one of Japan’s oldest ceramic producing regions. He uses red clay with high iron content. His pieces are fired in a primitive wood-fire kiln, and then fired again in a gas kiln. This method makes a complex expressions of the clay which can only be obtained through this process.
