While some people were dismayed to learn the STI would not be returning, many will find the WRX more capable than expected. With its larger 2.4 Flat Four (FA24F), the Second Generation WRX has similar potential to the STI’s old 2.5L EJ25. Subaru has even race proven the motor at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and in numerous rallies. Out of the box, the VB WRX is a well engineered and capable vehicle. That being said, it still has its shortcomings. The factory cooling system is capable of keeping up with spirited driving and a daily commute. However, it starts to show its limitations when pushed hard on the track or when tuning is involved. From a quick flash tune to full big turbo builds, more cooling is always beneficial.
