Content: The little planet we call home is an incredibly special place in the universe. Astronomers have not yet found life anywhere else, but life on our planet is under threat. In the past 200 years, earth’s population has grown from 1 billion to 7 billion and the United Nations predicts that we will reach 9.7 billion by 2050. An increased population brings increased problems. Social crises, crime, and international conflicts are becoming more frequent and violent. Earth’s inhabitants are rapidly consuming natural resources. Pollution is endangering wildlife. Scientists wonder whether this earth will be able to sustain 10 billion people.
