
Toledo: "City of the Three Cultures" with Clara Nchama
Description Located a few miles from Madrid, Toledo is one of the most important cities in Spain. Known as the “City of the Three Cultures”, and UNESCO World Heritage site, it was one of the most important European cultural centers during the Middle Ages. This seminar will explore Toledo, the home of Christians, Jews, and Muslims for more than 1,000 years, and the former “unofficial capital of Spain”.Today, its history and monuments have made it a symbol of tolerance and one of the best settings to learn about the history of Spain. In this conversation, we will focus on analyzing three of the sites that best tell us about the importance of Toledo as a multicultural and power center during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. First up is the old mosque of Bab-al-Mardum, one of the most important Andalusian buildings preserved from the time of the Caliphate.
