Metric may be more sensible, mathematically agile, and better suited to the precise needs of modern measurement — but where’s the charm? Yes, three barleycorns to make an inch may seem imprecise, but we’ve since standardized the lovable unit. To mark this achievement, we machined it  from Invar, a Nickel-Iron alloy so dimensionally stable that its discovery earned the Nobel prize in physics in 1920. Nothing on Earth can come close to its inherent invariability. Accurate to ±0.001”, the Invar Cubic Inch is an indisputably precise reference unit.
