About this Issue We often do not notice the habits we have. Normal things we do every day like eating, sleeping, brushing our teeth, or chatting with friends are often so ordinary that we rarely pay much attention to them. But as Annie Dillard says, “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” Sometimes habits may seem like humdrum or even annoying constraints, but they also can bring a freeing order and expectation to our lives. Changes feel chaotic until they become routine, and it can take intentional choices to choose rhythms that bring us peace even in the busyness. In this issue, we take a closer look at the ordinary rhythms that make up our lives, from the yearly changing of seasons, to our daily changing of the kitchen towel. What habits do we have? Why are they good? Which ones could be better? What habits have we worked hard to break or make? What rhythms have we encountered that make our days seem meaningful and interesting?
