Charming in the Sound
In a letter to his brother, John A. Washtington, George Washington wrote, "I heard the bullets whistle, and, believe me, there is something charming in the sound," in reflection from his first significant military experience during the French and Indian War. The quote refers to the sound of bullets whistling during the Jumonville Glen attack in May 1754, where Washington, then a young officer, was involved in a skirmish.
