Winemakers: Juan Vicente “Juanvi” Alcañiz Farming: Organic Grape Varieties: 70% Garnacha, 30% Tempranillo Terroir: La Ermita de Los Mártires and La Loma vineyards in the Sierra de Gúdar-Javalambre mountains at 980m. Soils are granitic and rocky for Garnacha, and calcareous clay for Tempranillo. Vines range from those planted in 2008 to over 90 years old. Vinification: Whole bunches are hand-harvested, then whole grapes are destemmed but not crushed, undergoing spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and short maceration in stainless steel tanks. Aging: The wine rests on the lees in concrete tanks for five months. Tasting Notes: Rubielos de Mora is a youthful, fruit-driven red wine with good ripeness but also exceptional freshness and acidity, and the wine is both juicy and light at the same time. It’s a fresh, tasty, and easy-to-drink new-school Mediterranean wine. Juanvi Viticultor is one of those ambitious startup “garage wineries” intent on revitalizing his region,
