I used the umbrellas as an analogy for shelter. The faces on the umbrellas are meant to say "We are our own shelter". Our faces, our eyes, our strength is where we find shelter. We are the thing that helps us weather the storm, and, like the umbrella we can carry it with us where ever we go. The piece rejects the idea that we need protection from the world or barriers between us and the world. We are our own protection and autonomous.
