2022 Domaine Francois et Antoine Jobard Beaune 1er Cru Les Épenottes
While known mostly for their white wines, Jobard makes a few noteworthy reds, and we tend to love the style of red from predominantly white wine addresses like this because they are super elegant and not over-extracted. The 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Les Épenottes comes from a 0.54-hectare vineyard in Beaune’s renowned Les Épenottes Premier Cru, planted in 1988. The 2022 vintage, marked by a warm growing season, produced wines with concentrated fruit, ripe tannins, and balanced acidity, attributing to earlier harvest dates that preserved freshness. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts, followed by aging in French oak, typically with minimal new oak to preserve terroir expression. This bottling reflects the Jobard philosophy of restrained intervention and site-driven character and is a fantastic buy for the category, especially at this low price.
