This coprolite, or feces, fossil belonged to an ancient turtle from the Eocene period. Like other fossils, coprolites have had much of their original composition replaced by mineral deposits such as silicates and calcium carbonates. Coprolites are classified as trace fossils as opposed to body fossils, as they give evidence for the animal’s behavior rather than morphology. They serve a valuable purpose in paleontology because they provide direct evidence of the predation and diet of extinct organisms.  Material: Turtle Coprolite Age: 38-55 million years (Eocene period)Origin: Mahajanga, Republic of MadagascarWeight: Approximately 0.73 lbsDimensions: ~4.5 x 2 x 2" These fossils were formed naturally so each specimen may have slight variations in size and shape. The fossil you receive may not be exactly as pictured.
