Thought the Kunstler winery was founded their in Hochheim in 1965, the family can trace their heritage in grape growing back to 1648 in a small area just outside of Vienna. The choice to settle in Hochheim stemmed from their unwaverinf approach and philosophy to never compromise on quality. This stance was a facet of the widely held view that "Hock" denoted the finest Rhine wines available, similarly as "Claret" was synonymous with the greatest Bordeaux.
