Ardbeg Supernova 2009 Ardbeg Supernova has been a phenomenon since the Advance Committee Release sold out in a matter of hours back in January 2009. This is the peatiest Ardbeg ever at over 100ppm. Ardbeg is a Scottish whisky producer with one of the oldest distilleries on the island of Islay. It is renowned as one of the peatiest whiskies in the world. Ardbeg's two stills produce a relatively large 1 million liters of spirit annually. This is only available as a single malt and is not a component of any blends. The whisky is matured mostly in Bourbon casks, with a small portion aged in Sherry casks. It is heavily peated but does not have the same briny, sea-air character of many Islay whiskies. Instead, Ardbeg is popular among malt drinkers for its smoky, spicy, sweet character.
