Fratelli Alessandria, Barolo del Comune di Verduno, 2020
Fratelli Alessandria is one of the benchmark producers in Verduno, a village known for making some of the most graceful, aromatic Barolos. Their Comune di Verduno bottling blends fruit from several top sites, giving a pure snapshot of the village’s signature style—elegant, expressive, and beautifully balanced. The 2020 vintage, with its combination of ripeness and freshness, makes this especially vibrant and approachable. Wild strawberry, red cherry, and blood orange jump out first, followed by dried roses, licorice, and a hint of spice. The tannins are firm but fine-grained, giving it structure without overwhelming the wine’s lifted, floral side. While delicious with a good decant now, this will age gracefully for 10–15 years. A perfect match for truffle dishes, roasted meats, or just a long, slow evening with a great bottle of Barolo.
