Nikka Yoichi Non-Peated Single Malt

The famed Yoichi distillery is the second and smaller distillery of the Nikka Whisky Company. Founded in 1934 by one of the two most influential men in Japanese Whisky, Masataka Taketsuru, you’ll still find it today in southern Hokkaido where it’s surrounded by mountains and a terrain suspiciously similar to the one found in Scotland. That’s also where Masataka studied the art of Whisky production before returning to Japan as a master blender. Their big, oily spirits in the Highland style are every Whisky lover’s wet dream. This fantastic offering was perhaps the most anticipated Nikka release of 2021. As you can guess from the name, this Nikka is un-peated, which means there’s plenty of undisturbed fruitiness going around on the palate with orchard fruits in the form of Hokkaido apples, peaches, and apricots.
